There is a joke "Three musicians and a bass player walk into a bar." Well I am here to say that is not accurate. A bass player and the drummer are the backbone to any great band. It has been that way forever. Some people think you need a five or six string bass to be great. Well, for anyone that truly feels that way you should have a coversation with Geddy Lee (Rush), Sting and Paul McCartney. My favorite bass player is Les Claypool. He sings and plays bass for a band called Primus. As far as I am concerned he is the best bassist for one reason, and that is because he can play and sing. For anyone that is doubting what I said go to YouTube and see for yourself. I play a Schecter bass and a Peavey amplifier. Although I love my set up my dream set up is much different. I would play a Mesa Boogie Head with a Mesa cabinet and I would play the Geddy Lee signature Fender bass and the Schecter I have now. The reason I would choose the Mesa cabinet is because if you play active pick-ups like I do it sounds better than anything else. I love playing bass and I don’t regret for one day picking it up for the first time. Every band needs a bass player and that is the truth. If you go to a bluegrass concert, Sunday church, rock concert or even a lot of rappers have bass players live. I’m a bass player for life!
